Washington Black

by Esi Edugyan

Has your period of enforced isolation given you a hankering to fly above the world in a hot air balloon? Then take flight with Washington Black, the slave of abolitionist and mad inventor Titch Wilde as they escape the pain and brutality of an 1830s Barbados sugar plantation. This flying machine sees the beginning of a kaleidoscopic adventure into the unknown, transporting them on a journey across continents, as Washington Black attempts to flee those who would see him captured dead or alive.
